Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and that means one thing… Valentine's Day arts and crafts! Arts and crafts are a fantastic creative outlet for little ones which helps to develop so many important fine-motor and cognitive skills. With so many benefits to be had from getting stuck into arts and crafts, let us share with you a couple of great ideas for getting crafty and celebrating love this Valentine’s Day!

Fingerprint Love Heart Tree

For this activity, you will need:

  • 2 sheets of white A4 paper
  • Red and pink ink pads, or red and pink finger paints
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  1. Take a sheet of white paper and draw your heart stencil. We recommend folding a portrait piece of paper in half, then drawing a half heart and cutting along your pencil line to create a perfectly shaped cut-out heart.
  2. Place your cut out heart onto your second piece of paper and its time to get creative! Start with a black marker and draw the branches of your Love Heart tree.
  3. Now to get messy with the paints! Start by taking one of your coloured paints and dipping in your finger, then stamp your finger around your tree branches to form your tree. Top tip, you can create different shaped leaves by using both fingers and thumbs!
  4. Take your second coloured paint to bring your tree to life, and hurrah - your fingerprint love heart tree is complete!

Bouquet of Hearts Card

For this activity, you will need:

  • White card
  • Coloured paper (pinks, reds, purples or whatever coloured heart flowers you would like)
  • Small piece of ribbon
  • White glue or glue dots
  • Markers
  • Pencil
  1. Take your coloured paper and create your hearts, these will become the flowers in your bouquet. Like the Love Heart tree activity, we recommend folding the paper in half, drawing a half heart with a pencil and then cutting this out to create perfect hearts.
  2. Take your marker and decorate your heart flowers however you like! This could be with stripes, spots, zig zags or something else.
  3. Folder your piece of white card in half to turn it into a card.
  4. Take a green marker and draw some flower stems on the front of your card.
  5. Now to get sticking! One by one, glue your heart flowers onto your card to form your bouquet. To get more of a 3D effect, only glue the heart in the middle so the edges remain slightly raised.
  6. Take your small piece of ribbon, tie this into a bow and glue it onto your bouquet stems for the perfect finishing touch!
