Penny Wash
Easy science experiment!
If you are looking for something a little different to do but is super fun to see some great results... try cleaning your copper pennies with this simple experiment.
What you need:
Old copper coins
50 ml white wine vinegar
1 tsp salt
50 ml water
2 cups
Kitchen roll
A spoon
What is going to happen in this experiment?
Copper coins are covered in copper oxide, and vinegar is an acid. The vinegar will react with the salt to remove the copper oxide from your coins, making them all shiny once again
Step 1: Take one of your cups and pour in the vinegar and salt. Make sure you mix it all together
Step 2: Take your other cup and pour in the water
Step 3: Now it is time to place a copper coin in the vinegar mixture – count to 20 seconds. 1,2,3,4...
Step 4: Use your spoon to take out the penny and drop it into your water cup. Now count to 10 seconds
Step 5: Time to see the magic. Take out the penny and use the kitchen roll to give it a rub.
Step 6: Look at that sparkle !!
